Military Rape Crisis Center recomendations for changes in SAPR approved.

Air Force Maj. Gen. Mary Kay Hertog will be replaced as the Director of SAPRO in July by a new director, Army Maj. Gen Gary S. Patton.
In the short time that Maj. Gen. Mary Kay Hertog served as Director of SAPRO an increase in the number of servicemen and women came forward reporting that they have been victims of sexual violence while serving in the US Armed Forces.  The Pentagon reported 3,191 cases of sexual assault in 2011, a slight increase from 2010. Due to the high number of unreported incidents, however, last year’s total is estimated at 19,000.

The Military Rape Crisis Center looks forward with serving with Gen. Patton to help improve the sexual assault prevention and response program within the Department of Defense.
