NORFOLK — The highest-ranking enlisted Sailor aboard the Norfolk-based dock landing ship Ashland has been relieved of duty for inappropriately touching another Sailor, the Navy said Wednesday.
Command Master Chief Ron Burnett was removed by the Ashland’s commanding officer, Cmdr. Scott Curtis, the Navy said in a news release.
The release says Curtis made his decision based a preliminary review of evidence from an ongoing inquiry by Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or NCIS.
“Curtis determined that Master Chief Burnett could no longer serve in the unique position of trust and confidence that a command master chief enjoys, and relieved him of those duties,” the statement says.
Burnett has been in the service since 1981.
The Ashland is currently undergoing maintenance at a shipyard in Norfolk.
