Army Ends Death Sentence for Murder and Rape (1948)

A flashback in time. The first news article published in the New York Times regarding sexual assault in the military dates back to July 15, 1948.

From article:

“The mandatory sentence of death for courtmartial conviction of crimes of murder and rape, military law throughout this country’s history, will be abolished by the Army under new courtmartial procedures announced today, and to become effective next Feb.1.”
